Posted - 04 Nov 2015 : 08:37:27 Simple tuning steps.....
1. convert to electronic ignition (costs less than £50) go to Accuspark and use discount code SR10 for 10% off.
2. Change the carb and manifolds for the Sunbeam Alpine repro type made by WebCon UK. speak to Jerome Senn in the Alpine club as he champions them, although this kit is very expensive it will DRAMATICALLY improve the engine's economy, smoothness and power! this is around the £500ish mark
3. port and polish the head, you can go a long way with the alloy head and it makes a good deal of difference. you can even go for bigger valves if you like but then it starts to get pricey! £200
4. Holbay camshaft, if you are starting with the 1725cc engine, why not add a holbay cam? the Head wont fit the carb set-up mentioned in stage 2.) and you can get more out of porting and polishing a standard head! the Holbay cam is rare but will give you better lift.
5. and finally computer controlled ignition system, not so scary or complicated - not even pricey either!! around £200 from AccuSpark will get you the full kit including the software to program it all for yourself. it even has a new distributor! (i have it on my H120)
6..... look out for fuel injection, it's currently under development but you didnt hear that from me ;) |
