Posted - 03 Aug 2017 : 21:15:08 My series v Rapier has passed its MOT today with no advisories and I pretty chuffed. BUT there is an annoying oil leak from the timing cover / pulley wheel which I would like to cure. I have heard of a modification in the USA whereby a new timing cover, with a proper oil seal, can be fitted together with a new pulley wheel. I believe it is readily available in the USA Is it available in the UK ? and Can the modification be done with the engine in situ ?
Regards to all and TIA to any one who responds |

Posted - 21 Aug 2017 : 21:22:34 I actually retained the original pulley when installing the new cover with oil seal. First checking for signs of cracking after thoroughly cleaning it with thinners, then "glueing" a sleeve over the rear for the oils seal to run on. It is well held by the resin type adhesive supplied with the kit. Adapted pulley re-installed and the new timing chain cover bolted back, simple. No sign of leaks at all.It could be achieved with engine in situ, by removing the radiator etc.first. Good luck

Posted - 14 Aug 2017 : 06:48:43 Please don't buy a damper pulley as Rootes Parts Service in the Netherlands is offering. There have been cases in which this pulley split in two pieces and hitting the radiator. In stead of that buy a solid one.

Posted - 13 Aug 2017 : 22:33:15 I bought and installed a super conversion kit from Alpine innovations. No special tools needed and completely cured my oil leak.

Posted - 13 Aug 2017 : 12:46:12 I think you need the pulley with the 'damper' - I think that's the correct expression. I think there are two different pulleys around. I think the Sunbeam club in the Netherlands had the better type re-made, but if so they will be expensive. They do need lining up with the proper tool regardless of type fitted. G |
