Currently stripping down my H120 for a full resto and just wondered if anyone had any tips for removing the chrome trim on the roof side rails without damaging them?
Hi! I'd avoid doing it if you possible can, but if you must, I'd start at rear and work my way up using a little heat from a heat-gun - not too much! just to ease them off. I did mine without heat and just patiently easing them off, but it took me a quite a while doing a little at a time. Hope that's of some help. G
Use a blunt piece of wood and a hammer from inside the car on the bottom edge. Once you have one end started, they ping off fairly easily! Just be gentle!
I took them off with a 'wooden chisel' same as Sam. Once you've got the first maybe 3 - 4 inches off I found that ~I could just slide the chisel along by pushing with my hand with the edge of the 'chisel' between the upper edge of the gutter and the underside of the chrome strip.
Needs to be decent wood really so as to avoid it splitting when your pushing it along. I used a piece of mahogany I found in the garden shed. Also be careful when you are going around the bendy bits as the trim is much tighter particularly going around the windscreen bend.
